Nagpur Cop Dragged 250 Metres on Car Bonnet, Accused Arrested

Nagpur: A shocking incident of attack on a police officer surfaced from Nagpur’s Sakkardara area, where a traffic policeman was allegedly dragged nearly 250 metres on the bonnet of a speeding car during a late-night naka checking operation.
The injured officer, Police Havaldar Harshad Indal Wasnik, sustained a fracture in his leg and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police have arrested the accused driver and registered serious charges, including attempt to murder.
According to police sources, the incident took place between 11:30 pm and 11:45 pm on Thursday near Bhande Plot Chowk under the jurisdiction of Sakkardara Police Station. Traffic police personnel had set up a routine checking point when they signaled a white Honda City car bearing registration number MH-49-BK-6212 to stop.
However, instead of halting the vehicle, the driver allegedly accelerated at high speed and rammed into Havaldar Wasnik. Following the impact, the accused reportedly continued driving with the policeman stuck on the bonnet for around 250 metres towards Gurudev Nagar Road before fleeing the spot.
After the incident, police launched a search operation using CCTV footage and the vehicle registration details. The accused was later traced and arrested.
The arrested accused has been identified as 32-year-old Prasannajit Raj Ratna Ramteke, a resident of Bahadura. Police sources said the accused is reportedly the son of a retired police officer.
A case has been registered against the accused under multiple serious sections, including attempt to murder, and further investigation is underway.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over the safety of traffic police personnel and the city’s law-and-order situation, especially after back-to-back attacks on policemen in Nagpur.
