Maharashtra to Launch Skill-Based Courses in ITIs from June 2026

Nagpur: The Maharashtra government has announced the launch of new skill-based courses in Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and technical schools starting June 2026, aiming to enhance employment opportunities for students, especially from rural areas. The announcement was made by Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister for Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation.
Highlighting the growing demand for skilled manpower, the minister stated that sectors such as industrial services, digital technology, cybersecurity, and solar energy are witnessing massive job creation due to increased investments in the state. He credited progressive government policies like ease of doing business, transparency, and technology-driven governance for attracting industries and generating employment. The new courses are designed to equip students with industry-relevant skills aligned with modern technological advancements.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of a new building of the Government ITI and Government Technical School in Kamthi. The institute has also been renamed in honor of Hemant Karkare, a martyred police officer, as a tribute to his service to the nation. The event was inaugurated by Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who also serves as the Guardian Minister of Nagpur district.
During his address, Bawankule emphasized the need to introduce specialized courses in solar energy technology, equipment maintenance, digital services, and cybersecurity, particularly to benefit youth in rural regions. Responding positively, Lodha assured that new trades and courses would be introduced at Kamptee ITI and that the institute’s progress would be reviewed monthly to develop it into a model training center in the state.
The Skill Development Department has taken a significant decision, under the guidance of Devendra Fadnavis, to name the institute after Hemant Karkare. The move is expected to inspire students with values of patriotism and duty.
Bawankule also announced a funding allocation of ₹4.5 crore from the district annual plan for the development of the Kamthi ITI in the current financial year. He stressed that students should focus not just on obtaining certificates but on acquiring practical skills, staying committed to learning, and working hard to succeed in a competitive global environment.
The ministers also highlighted long-term plans to develop the educational and training complex in Koradi into a major center combining skill development with social responsibility over the next five years. The initiative aims to empower local youth and women through vocational training in garments, hosiery, and other employment-oriented skills.
Officials and public representatives were present at the event, which marked a significant step toward strengthening skill-based education and improving employability across Maharashtra, particularly in rural areas.
