White paper on Tamil Nadu’s fiscal health soon, says CM Vijay, slams DMK for leaving treasury empty

In his first three executive orders, Vijay announced providing 200 units of free electricity every two months for domestic consumers, the creation of a special ‘Singappen’ rapid response force for women’s safety, and the setting up of anti-narcotics units across the state.

Vijay presented himself as an “ordinary man”, saying that he is not an angel and said that he needs time to set things right in the administration. “Please be patient with me. Give me some time. This is your government,” he said, maintaining that there will only be one power center.

Promising improved law and order, Vijay said that he promises to improve the situation in the state, besides focusing on women’s safety. “I will focus first on basic needs. I will not take a paisa from people’s money. Vijay will not do wrong things.”

He called the new administration “a new beginning and a new era of real, secular, social justice governance” in his first public address as head of government. He thanked the people, especially children and young supporters who backed ‘Vijay mama,’ for supporting him in his political journey.

“I will never give you false promises. I’ll only say what I can deliver, I know what poverty and hunger mean. I did not come from a royal lineage,” he said.

The CM also thanked alliance partners, including Congress leaders, and referred to Rahul Gandhi as a brother. The TVK coalition must prove its majority in the Assembly by 13 May.

DMK president M.K.Stalin congratulated Vijay on being sworn in as the chief minister and countered his remake on empty treasury. “Don’t start saying right away that the government has no money. It does have it. What’s needed is the will to give it to the people, and the ability to govern. For five years, we implemented countless welfare schemes for the people despite grappling with numerous issues like COVID and floods, as well as the neglect from the Union BJP government,” he said.

Stating that the debt level is within the permissible limits, Stalin pointed out Vijay’s accusation that the previous government left behind a debt of Rs 10 lakh crore and emptied the treasury.

“We clearly explained the financial position of the Tamil Nadu government in the February budget itself. Didn’t you know that? It was only after that you gave various promises to the people? Don’t deceive the people who voted for you again and try to divert the issue! You, who came to power saying, ‘I will only give promises that are practically feasible,’ are now just stepping into government administration. I believe that, just like us, you too will surely soon learn the nuances of how to fulfill the promises made to the people. Along with the people who voted for you, I too expect the same,” Stalin posted on X.
