Vidarbha Scorched: Streets Empty as Temperatures Near 47°C
Vidarbha’s summer has now started feeling less like a season and more like a survival test, as temperatures across the region continue to stay dangerously high. From Nagpur’s 46°C to Brahmapuri crossing 47°C, the heat has turned afternoons into near standstill hours. Streets that are usually packed with traffic and local activity are now witnessing quieter scenes as people prefer staying indoors to escape the scorching conditions.
The heat pattern on Wednesday showed almost every major city in the region trapped above the normal mark. Chandrapur recorded 46.8°C, Wardha and Gadchiroli settled at 46.4°C, while Amravati touched 45.8°C, Gondia recorded 45.2°C, Bhandara reached 45°C, while Yavatmal also remained at 45°C. Even cities considered relatively cooler, such as Washim at 42.6°C and Buldana at 41°C,continued to face uncomfortable temperatures, offering little respite from the dry and exhausting weather.
The rising temperatures are beginning to affect everyday routines in visible ways. Tea stalls, markets and public areas are witnessing reduced afternoon movement, while cold drink shops, juice centres and roadside coconut vendors are seeing a sharp increase in demand. Across several districts, residents have shifted outdoor activities to early morning or late evening hours to avoid direct exposure to the blazing sun.
Health specialists say the current weather can quickly drain energy levels and affect the body if precautions are ignored. Citizens have been advised to increase water intake even if they do not feel thirsty, avoid oily and spicy food during daytime, and take frequent breaks while working outdoors. Experts also recommend keeping oral rehydration solutions, lemon water and seasonal fruits as part of daily diets to help the body cope with the prolonged heat stress.
