Traffic diversion on Samruddhi Mahamarg due to truck accident in Wardha

Traffic on the Mumbai-Nagpur carriageway of the Samruddhi Mahamarg was diverted following the overturning of an ethanol-laden container truck near Interchange 80 in Wardha district, Maharashtra.

The incident occurred around 3 am on Monday, completely blocking the Mumbai-to-Nagpur carriageway, according to an official statement. Traffic bound for Nagpur has been redirected to the opposite carriageway, resulting in congestion along the affected route.

Authorities have advised motorists travelling from Nagpur to Mumbai to avoid the Samruddhi Mahamarg up to Wardha for several hours. Instead, they are urged to use the Nagpur-Amravati Highway before rejoining the expressway via the Amravati Gate interchange.

Similarly, commuters heading from Mumbai to Nagpur have been instructed to exit the Samruddhi Mahamarg at the Amravati Gate interchange and continue along the Nagpur-Amravati Highway.

Teams from the Highway Safety Patrol, Wardha Police, Fire Brigade and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation are currently engaged in restoration work at the site.

Due to the highly inflammable nature of the ethanol cargo, officials are first emptying the container before its removal to ensure public safety.

In a subsequent accident at the same location, a truck collided with the rear of a four-wheeler, resulting in the deaths of four family members from Wardha district.

Officials have stated that updates on traffic restoration will be provided every two hours.
