Rains throw Nagpur flights into chaos

ATC congestion at rain-battered Mumbai further compounded the situation at Nagpur, a key commercial and logistics hub in Central India
Delays, cancellations leave passengers stranded
Repeated flight disruptions during the ongoing monsoon are beginning to take a toll not only on passengers but also on business travel and the regional economy. With Nagpur serving as a key commercial and logistics hub in Central India, frequent delays and cancellations are disrupting corporate schedules, affecting trade-related movement and diminishing confidence in air connectivity. Multiple flights to and fro Nagpur were delayed, while key Mumbai-bound services were cancelled, leaving hundreds of travellers stranded on Monday.
The Mumbai sector witnessed the biggest setback. IndiGo (6E 6802/ 5175) flight operating between Mumbai and Nagpur, along with codeshare services Virgin Atlantic Airways (VS 9492/ 8223), and British Airways (BA 8224) was cancelled due to operational reasons. The cancellations disrupted travel for passengers who were left searching for alternate flights or rescheduling their journeys. Air Traffic Control (ATC) congestion at Mumbai further compounded the situation.
IndiGo flight of Mumbai – Nagpur – Mumbai (6E 6058/6145) arrived significantly behind the schedule, with its revised arrival time at Nagpur pushed to 11.05 am, against the schedule 9.30 am. Another Mumbai service (6E 2060/ 5344), also suffered delays owing to ATC congestion at the country’s busiest airport.
The disruption was not limited to the Mumbai route. IndiGo flight (6E 202) between Nagpur and Pune departed more than three hours late,
while flight (6E 2481) from Pune to Nagpur was delayed by nearly 3 hours and 40 minutes. The Hyderabad – Nagpur service (6E 7543) also operated with a delay of almost two hours, affecting passengers on another key domestic route. The Bengaluru route also witnessed delays on Monday. IndiGo flight (6E 6432) from Nagpur to Bengaluru departed around 1 hour and 10 minutes behind schedule, with its codeshare services operated by Qantas Airways (QF 8918) and Virgin Atlantic (VS 9580) reflecting the same delay.
The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 7.35 pm, was rescheduled to 8.45 pm, further extending the day’s disruption across multiple domestic sectors operating from Nagpur Airport.
Monday’s disruptions come amid a series
of flight disturbances witnessed over the past few days. On Friday, services between Nagpur and Ahmedabad and the Nagpur–Delhi route also were delayed due to weather-related operational issues.
Earlier, heavy monsoon rains and runway congestion in Mumbai had delayed several Mumbai–Nagpur flights on Wednesday and again on Sunday evening, with some services running over two-and-a-half hours behind schedule.
Airport officials attributed the disruptions primarily to ATC congestion at Mumbai and operational reasons behind the cancellations.
