teams stand a chance of winning twin titles in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Cup State-level Volleyball Tournament underway at the Badlapur Gymkhana ground, Badlapur.
Nagpur division teams, along with hosts Mumbai, have advanced to the finals in two groups each while Kolhapur, Pune, Nashik and Latur divisions also made it to the finals.
The event is being organised jointly by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services and Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Council.
In the boys Under-18 category semi-finals, Nagpur defeated Pune division 25-13, 25-22, 30-32, 25-15 while Kolhapur defeated Latur 25-20, 25-13, 25-18 points to reach the final round. Nagpur’s Vatsalya Kiratkar, Krishna Tadse and Karmanya Chilkulwar quickly recovered points and won the match in the fourth set, opening the door for the final round for the team.

 

Nagpur girls also entered final and will lock horns with Pune who defeated defending champions Latur 25-23, 25-20, 25-23 in straight sets.
Mumbai boys and girls made it to both finals of Under-21 age group. In the semi-final, Mumbai and Kolhapur team went on till the fourth set in the competition played under lights. Mumbai established its dominance by winning 25-14, 25-20, 15-25, 27-25. Jeevak Waghmare led the attack while Rudra Varun’s all-round play helped Mumbai win the fourth set. In the Under-21 girls final, Nashik will face a strong Mumbai.
The prize distribution ceremony will be held in presence of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
As many as 384 players from eight divisions of the State are participating in the five-day
competition.
