The Malkajgiri traffic police booked 3,497 cases and imposed fines amounting to ₹6.03 lakh during a special drive against footpath encroachments and carriageway obstructions conducted across the commissionerate on Thursday.
Police teams were deployed in commercial areas, market stretches, busy junctions and other congestion-prone locations to identify and remove encroachments obstructing pedestrian movement and affecting the free flow of traffic.
According to the police, encroachments on footpaths force pedestrians onto roads, increasing the risk of accidents and causing inconvenience to commuters. Obstructions on carriageways also reduce road capacity and worsen traffic congestion.
The police advised shop owners, vendors and commercial establishments not to occupy footpaths or roads and warned that regular enforcement drives would continue to ensure pedestrian safety and unobstructed traffic movement.
