Inter-State bike-lifting gang busted, 44 two-wheelers recovered


Ichoda police in Adilabad district busted an inter-State bike-lifting gang by arresting five members and recovering 44 stolen two-wheelers.

Three persons who allegedly bought the stolen vehicles were also arrested.

Disclosing the details to the media in Adilabad on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said the gang was involved in a series of motorcycle thefts in the erstwhile Adilabad and Nizambad districts, as well neighbouring areas of Maharashtra.

The arrests followed a motorcycle theft reported in Ichoda town on August 8. Police identified the gang members using CCTV footage and technical evidence and traced them, leading to their arrest.

Those arrested were Marampelli Anil, 21, and Shaik Shabbir, 39, of Chincholi village, Shaik Mustashahid, 36, of Keshavapatnam village and Mohd. Zakir, 55, and Mohd. Shafi, 37, of Sirikonda village in Adilabad district.

Mujahid and Kareem of Keshavapatnam and Iqbal of Gundala, were arrested for allegedly purchasing stolen motorcycles from the gang. Further investigation is underway to trace others involved in the racket.
