Brain-Dead Man Gives Life To 3 In Nagpur & Amravati | Nagpur News


Nagpur: A 30-year-old, who succumbed to injuries after a road accident, gave a new lease of life to three persons in Nagpur and Amravati districts through organ donations on Wednesday. The family of Dhiraj Santosh Kalawate (30) of Chandur Railway, Amravati, consented to donate his liver, both kidneys and pair of corneas after he was declared brain-stem dead.Kalawate met with an accident on Chandur Railway Road at around 10.45pm on Aug 12. He was initially admitted to a hospital in Chandur Railway and was later shifted to RIMS Hospital, Amravati, around 12.30am as his condition deteriorated. On August 15, he was shifted to another hospital in Amravati, where he was treated under supervision of specialist doctors for three days.Despite treatment, his condition continued to worsen. Following medical examinations, the Brain Stem Death (BSD) committee declared him brain-stem dead.The hospital coordinator counselled Dhiraj’s family about organ donation. His father Santosh (60), mother Anita (55) and sister Bhagyashree (19) took the decision to donate his organs, despite their grief.ZTCC-Nagpur, under guidance of president Dr Manish Shrigiriwar and secretary Dr Shailesh Gahukar, completed the allocation process through transplant coordinator Dinesh Mandape, following national organ allocation guidelines.The donated liver was allocated to a 61-year-old male patient in Nagpur, while one kidney was allocated to a 35-year-old female patient in Amravati. The second kidney was allocated to a 72-year-old male patient in Nagpur. The pair of corneas was sent to district hospital, Amravati.
