Doc robbed of gold chain after road accident, police crack case in 3 days | Nagpur News



Nagpur: A young doctor from Mayo Hospital was robbed of his gold chain by two miscreants even as he lay injured on the road after meeting with an accident near Lotus Chowk in Ganeshpeth police station limits. In a relief for the doctor, the police not only arrested the main accused but also recovered the chain within three days.Police also rounded up the minor accomplice of the main accused and recovered property, total worth Rs3 lakh. Police scrutinised almost 100 CCTV cameras to find clues in the case. Dr Kaustubh Kale (25), a resident of Mhada complex, was on his way to Mayo Hospital on March 8, between 4am and 4.30am, when he fell off his bike after crossing the stretch from Empress City Gate to the Lotus Chowk area under Ganeshpeth police station limits. As the doctor laid on the ground with a head injury, two helmet-less persons on a black motorcycle approached him, snatched the 20-gram gold chain from his neck, and fled within seconds.Shaken and bleeding, Dr Kale somehow reached Mayo Hospital, received first aid, and later filed a complaint at Ganeshpeth police station where a case was registered the same day.Police sub-inspector Vijendra Nachan and his team, comprising asst sub-inspector Sameer Shaikh, scanned more than 100 private CCTV cameras installed along the route and nearby areas, carried out technical analysis of the footage, and tapped informants. The breakthrough came when the prime suspect was identified as Rajesh alias Babya Uike (23), a resident of Nandanvan, along with his minor associate. On March 11, the police team conducted searches and managed to track down the duo. Police recovered the gold chain snatched from the doctor, valued at Rs2,40,000, two mobile phones and a motorcycle used in the crime. The operation was carried out under the supervision of DCP Rahul Madane, senior police inspector Atul Tawade, and police inspector (Crime) Pandurang Jadhav. Police are trying to find out whether the duo was involved in other chain-snatching incidents reported in Nagpur recently. Police will hand over the gold chain to the doctor after legal formalities are completed.
