Wahane sisters impress in Pt Khadse memorial show | Nagpur News



Nagpur: The sitar and santoor ‘jugalbandi’ by Wahane sisters lighted up the Sunday evening dedicated to Hindustani classical music at the third edition of the Pt Mahadeorao Khadse Smruti Sangeet Samaroh held at the Banyan Hall of the Chitnavis Centre.Organised by NaadChakra Sanstha in association with the Chitnavis Centre, the concert paid tribute to noted shehnai exponent Pt Khadse and drew classical music enthusiasts from across the city.The highlight of the evening was a sitar-santoor jugalbandi by sisters Sanskrati and Prakrati Wahane, whose coordinated performance blended the depth of the sitar with the shimmering tonal texture of the santoor. The duo opened their recital with Raag Jhinjhoti, gradually building a melodic canvas that captivated the audience.Before beginning, the sisters shared a personal anecdote about their connection with Nagpur, recalling that the city was the venue of some of their earliest performances. They said Nagpur holds a special place in their musical journey.The duo also noted that the city has long been known for appreciating Hindustani classical music, which encouraged them to present a repertoire deeply rooted in traditional classical forms for the evening.Sanskrati and Prakrati trained under their father Lokesh Wahane and also received guidance from eminent maestros Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan and Pandit Suresh Talwalkar. The programme also featured a shehnai recital by Nagpur-based artiste Nikhil Khadse, accompanied on tabla by Ram Khadse.
