Mohan Bhagwat Statement: Youth Demographic Strength
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Saturday, August 15, in Nagpur that youth are a demographic dividend for the country. If they are given the right direction, the country will benefit greatly, but if this doesn’t happen, the burden on society may increase in the future.
This was Bhagwat’s second conversation with Gen Z in a week. He said that after 30 years, the youth will also become elderly, so they should not think only about themselves.
Bhagwat asked the youth to also consider the needs of future generations. He said that India should set its own standards for development and progress according to its circumstances.
What is a demographic dividend?
A demographic dividend occurs when a country has a larger working-age population (15–64 years) compared with children and elderly people. This gives the country a large workforce that can contribute to economic growth and development.
Explained the importance of employment and hard work to youth
Bhagwat said that youth need to first understand that India is different from countries like America, Australia, China, and New Zealand. It should create its own standards for development and progress.
He said, “Youth are a demographic strength. If they are given the right direction, we will benefit greatly; otherwise, the burden on society will increase. Youth are going to become earning people.”
He said that employment does not mean only jobs. People who do manual labour are also part of employment, and their work should be respected.
Talks of showing the world the path to the future
Bhagwat said that it is India’s responsibility to show the world the path to the future through its thinking and balance. For this, the country will have to prepare a thought process according to its circumstances.
He said, “The world is stumbling due to its incomplete thinking. Being a part of India, it is our responsibility to show the world the path to the future through our thinking and bring balance to it. We will have to prepare for this.”
A large tricolor was hoisted at the event after considerable efforts. Giving this as an example, Bhagwat asked people to think about what the national flag represents and how much hard work will be required to take India to a high position.
He said, “This is our responsibility. We should not compare ourselves with others.”
India will have to develop according to its needs
Bhagwat said that India has its own dignity, honor, and supreme prestige. India should itself consider what kind of development the country wants and what its standard of progress will be.
He said, “We are India, and India has its own glory, dignity, and supreme honor. What kind of development it needs and what will be its standard of progress, we have to think in this way for ourselves and the country.”
He said that a large part of the world thinks from the perspective of material things, whereas India’s thinking is not limited to just earning money.
Bhagwat said, “In India, we don’t think only about earning money. People say that even a chicken won’t eat money. We are like that.”
Appeal to youth to start a business
The RSS chief also emphasised the need to promote entrepreneurship. He said that youth have to face difficulties with courage and work for success.
Bhagwat said that India’s population is very large and its geographical area is comparatively small. Therefore, it cannot directly adopt the methods of countries like Canada, America, and China.
He said, “For countries with small populations, large geographical areas, or more resources, thinking only about employment may be sufficient.”
“But a country like India has a very large population, and its geographical area is smaller than that of Canada, America, and China. Therefore, we need completely different thinking for our problems. For this, we need to study properly.”
