11 cattle rescued from illegal slaughter setup in Nagpur

Nagpur: In a late-night operation, police rescued 11 cattle allegedly being held for illegal slaughter under inhumane conditions in the Gaddigodam area.
At around 1:40 am on April 18, a police patrol team received credible information about cattle being confined inside the ground of a school near Lal School Maidan. Acting swiftly, officers raided the location and found the animals crammed together without food or water, indicating preparations for slaughter.
The cattle, collectively valued at around Rs 1.95 lakh, were rescued and shifted to Gorakshan Kendra in Dhantoli for care and safety.
As the owner of the animals could not be identified, police have registered a case against unknown accused under provisions of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 (amended 1995) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
