Two arrested in Medchal with 5.8 kg of ganja


Two persons from Maharashtra were arrested by the Medchal police, leading to the seizure of 5.8 kg of ganja during a raid near Dhruva College Road, close to ORR Exit No. 6, in Medchal.

The accused were identified as Sachin Santosh Jadav alias Nitin alias Akash, 24, and Rajesh Madhav Chaudhari, 22, both labourers from Jalna district in Maharashtra.

According to police, the arrests were made on June 25 following a tip-off about transportation of narcotic substances. During the operation, police intercepted the duo and recovered 5.849 kg of ganja concealed inside a black bag. One mobile phone used for communication between the accused was also seized.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had procured the contraband from Odisha and transported it to Medchal with the intention of selling it illegally.

A case has been registered by the Medchal police under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Police said further investigation is underway.
