A two-kilometre awareness walk aimed at promoting thalassemia prevention, early screening and accessible healthcare support was organised on Necklace Road on Friday, on the occasion of International Thalassemia Day. The awareness walk was flagged off by Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha.
Participants carried placards and raised slogans highlighting the importance of regular blood screening, genetic counselling and early diagnosis to reduce the burden of thalassemia and sickle cell disease, hereditary blood disorders that affect thousands of families across the country.
President of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society (TSCS) Dr. Chandrakant Agarwal said that thalassemia could be prevented through timely screening, awareness and genetic counselling. He said the organisation’s mission was to ensure that every family understood the importance of early testing and had access to quality healthcare support.
