Rain forecast prompts Telangana Ministers to issue directions on precautionary measures

The red alert for a few districts of Telangana for Thursday (July 30, 2026) and weather forecast for the next two days has prompted Ministers to issue directions on the measures that have to be taken.

India Meteorological Department- Hyderabad Centre has placed five northern districts under red alert for Thursday, indicating very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied with strong surface winds (40-50 kmph) as very likely at isolated places in Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Jagtial districts. 

On Friday (July 31, 2026), Adilabad, Nirmal and Nizamabad were forecast to receive heavy rainfall. Strong surface winds up to (30-40 kmph) are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in all districts.

At a meeting held with Revenue and Disaster Management departments, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy to take precautionary measures near water streams, lakes and other water bodies. People in vulnerable areas have to be alerted. If need be, they have to be shifted to rehabilitation centres.

The Minister directed officials to ensure there are no interruptions in supply of electricity, water or flow of traffic in Hyderabad — which too has been receiving incessant rain of varying intensity. Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Traffic and other departments concerned have to work in coordination to avoid traffic issues. 

IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu too conducted an emergency video conference with MLAs, Collector, and senior officials to assess the ground situation in Peddapalli district. He issued directions to undertake flood relief and rehabilitation measures on a war footing in Godavarikhani, Peddapalli and the Singareni coal belt, where incessant heavy rainfall over the past two days has inundated several residential colonies.
