Nearly 860 motorists booked for drunk driving in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri
Traffic police across Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri booked a total of 858 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during special enforcement drives conducted over the weekend.
In Hyderabad, a two-day special drive carried out on June 5 and June 6 resulted in 422 cases being registered. Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 284 motorists during weekend enforcement drives. Meanwhile, Malkajgiri Traffic Police booked 152 motorists during a special drive conducted between May 31 and June 6.
All those apprehended will be produced before the courts. Police reiterated that drunk driving is a serious offence and warned that motorists who cause fatal accidents while driving under the influence of alcohol would be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a punishment of up to 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
