Nagpur Division Handles 3.68 Crore Passengers in 17 Months; Indore Vande Bharat Emerges Top Choice

Nagpur: The Nagpur-Indore Vande Bharat Express has emerged as the most preferred premium train from the city, retaining the highest passenger patronage among four such services, according to data obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.Figures shared by the Central Railway’s Nagpur Division show the Nagpur-Indore Vande Bharat and the return train carried 1.11 lakh passengers between January and May 2026, generating ₹12.72 crore in revenue. It had also topped the list in 2025 with 1.93 lakh passengers and earnings of ₹22.05 crore, indicating sustained demand.The Ajni–Pune Vande Bharat ranked second with 1.01 lakh passengers during the same period, but recorded the highest revenue at ₹14.08 crore, up from 89,028 passengers and ₹12.30 crore in 2025. The train was introduced in August last year.The Nagpur–Bilaspur service carried 92,625 passengers, earning ₹7.83 crore between January and May 2026, down from 1.85 lakh passengers and ₹15.30 crore last year. The Nagpur–Secunderabad train saw 69,391 passengers and ₹7.04 crore in revenue during the period, compared to 1.43 lakh passengers and ₹14.99 crore in 2025.The RTI application filed by activist Abhay Kolarkar also revealed that the Nagpur Division handled over 3.68 crore passengers between January 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026, generating ₹1,058 crore in earnings.In 2025 alone, 2.56 crore passengers travelled through the division, contributing ₹731.78 crore, while another 1.12 crore passengers were recorded between January and May 2026, adding ₹326.74 crore.Reserved ticketing accounted for a major share of revenue, with 88.38 lakh passengers in 2025 generating ₹594 crore. Between January and May 2026, 36.93 lakh reserved passengers contributed ₹255.12 crore.The RTI reply further noted that 3.35 lakh ticketless travellers were detected during the period, with penalties amounting to ₹24.49 crore. The division also earned ₹2.92 crore from advertisements.
