Maharashtra Approves ₹300-Crore Medical Cyclotron Project in Nagpur

The Maharashtra government has approved a ₹300-crore High-Energy Medical Cyclotron Project in Nagpur to enhance healthcare infrastructure and support advanced cancer diagnosis and treatment. The facility will focus on producing medical radioisotopes required for PET scans and nuclear medicine applications.

Improving Access to Nuclear Medicine

According to The Economic Times, the project aims to address the challenge of limited availability of medical radioisotopes by enabling their production within the state. Since these isotopes have a short shelf life, local manufacturing will help reduce transportation delays and ensure faster access for hospitals and patients.

Strengthening Healthcare and Research

The high-energy cyclotron facility is expected to support medical research, radiopharmaceutical development, and specialised healthcare services. It will also encourage collaboration among scientific institutions, hospitals, and research centres in the region.
