Observed annually on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War and honours the unparalleled courage, valour, and supreme sacrifice of the soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces. The day stands as a symbol of the nation’s gratitude to the brave men who fought under extremely challenging conditions in the Kargil-Drass Sector of Ladakh.
During Operation Vijay, Indian soldiers displayed exceptional bravery while battling enemy forces in rugged mountainous terrain at altitudes exceeding 16,000 feet under harsh weather conditions.
