Highly venomous Krait rescued from residential colony in Nagpur’s Hudkeshwar

Nagpur: Panic swept through Vrindavan Colony in the Hudkeshwar area late Thursday night after a highly venomous Common Krait (Manyar), considered one of India’s most dangerous snakes, was spotted slithering near a residential house.

The incident occurred at around 11.40 pm, when local resident Ganraj Bhatkar was talking on his mobile phone outside his house. He noticed the snake crossing the lane and moving towards a neighbouring residence. Realising the danger, he immediately alerted nearby residents, prompting people to rush out of their homes as anxiety spread across the colony.

A resident quickly contacted snake rescuer Shubham Parale, who rushed to the spot. After an extensive search, the snake was finally located hiding in thick bushes beside a narrow staircase near the house.

The rescue operation proved challenging because of the cramped space, requiring extreme caution. Displaying professional skill, Parale safely captured the venomous snake, secured it in a rescue container and later handed it over to the Forest Department for release into its natural habitat.

Speaking after the rescue, the snake rescuer appealed to citizens to remain calm if they encounter a snake during the monsoon season.

“Do not attempt to catch or kill the snake yourself. Immediately inform a trained snake rescuer or the Forest Department. Most snakebite incidents occur when people try to handle snakes without proper expertise,” he advised.

With snake sightings increasing during the rainy season as reptiles venture into residential areas in search of shelter, wildlife experts have urged residents to stay vigilant while allowing trained professionals to carry out rescue operations safely.
