Heavy rains lash parts of Cyberabad; waterlogging and traffic snarls reported from several areas
Several parts of Hyderabad witnessed heavy rainfall on Saturday (June 13) evening, leading to waterlogging at a few locations and slow-moving traffic across major junctions in the city.
The day began under overcast skies in many areas following overnight showers. By around 4 p.m., light rain and drizzle were reported from Mettuguda, Secunderabad, Begumpet, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and adjoining localities, before intensifying in parts of the city later in the evening.
Waterlogging was reported near Sawera Hotel in Shamshabad, affecting vehicular movement. Videos shared on social media also showed flooding along the Tellapur-Osmansagar road, with rainwater accumulating on stretches of the carriageway.
According to data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), as of 6 p.m., Rajendranagar recorded a rainfall of 55 mm. This was followed by 26.3 mm in BHEL Factory, 19.8 mm in Lingampally, 13.3 mm in Gachibowli, 11.8 mm in Chanda Nagar, 10.8 mm in University of Hyderabad and 10 mm in Patancheru.
As rain continued in several parts of Hyderabad, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) issued an advisory urging citizens to exercise caution while travelling. People were advised to avoid unnecessary movement through low-lying and waterlogging-prone areas, drive carefully on slippery roads and follow traffic advisories issued by authorities.
Officials said the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation’s monsoon teams, engineering staff and field personnel had been deployed and were closely monitoring vulnerable waterlogging points while taking preventive measures wherever necessary. Coordination was also being maintained with police and traffic authorities to ensure public safety and facilitate smooth movement during the rainfall period.
