Gig Workers’ 10-Minute Delivery Rush Raises Safety Concerns In Beltarodi Colony | Nagpur News
Nagpur: Residents of Manish Nagar have approached the Beltarodi Police, alleging that a quick-commerce warehouse operating within their residential colony has become a source of traffic congestion, noise pollution and safety concerns. In a representation submitted to the Beltarodi Police Station, residents claimed that the warehouse, established a few months ago to facilitate rapid home deliveries (10-minute delivery), has led to a steady influx of delivery personnel and vehicles into the otherwise quiet residential neighbourhood. While acknowledging the convenience offered by quick-commerce services, residents said the operational model is adversely affecting the quality of life within the colony.According to the complaint, delivery personnel frequently park their two-wheelers on internal roads and outside residential premises, obstructing movement for pedestrians and motorists. Residents alleged that unauthorised parking has narrowed roads and created difficulties for senior citizens, children and other commuters moving through the area. The citizens have also raised concerns over late-night activity around the facility. They claimed that groups of delivery workers often gather outside the warehouse during night hours, leading to loud conversations and noise that disturb public peace. Some residents further alleged instances of intoxication and nuisance, which they said have heightened concerns regarding security and safety within the colony.A major concern highlighted in the representation is the rash riding of two-wheelers by delivery personnel attempting to meet strict delivery timelines. Residents alleged that speeding and dangerous driving within the colony pose a risk to residents. They stated that the constant movement of delivery vehicles has disrupted the peaceful atmosphere of the neighbourhood and affected students preparing for examinations. The representation also questions whether commercial establishments should be permitted to operate from residential colonies and seeks clarity on regulations governing round-the-clock operations in such areas. Residents have requested stricter monitoring of the facility, action against traffic violations and nuisance-causing individuals, and increased police patrolling during late-night hours.Speaking to TOI, Beltarodi Police Inspector Ritesh Aher said police have taken note of the concerns raised by residents and will conduct a field verification. “Police officers will assess issues related to unauthorised parking, traffic obstruction, noise disturbance and any activities affecting public peace and safety. If any violation of law or public order is found, appropriate action will be taken,” he said.
