Gadchiroli police arrest 2 for putting up Maoist banners

Nagpur: The Gadchiroli Police have arrested two persons for allegedly posing as Maoists and putting up banners and posters in the Poste Pipli Burgi area.With Maoism completely eradicated from the district and not a single Maoist left on police records, the arrests have triggered fresh speculations. Police stated the two were not part of any Maoist formation.On July 12, unknown individuals had fixed a red cloth banner and white paper posters near a signboard on the road leading to Jarawandi Tola, about five kms from Pipli Burgi police post, with messages designed to instil fear among citizens.SP Gadchiroli M Ramesh had immediately ordered a probe. Acting on technical evidence and inputs from informers, police arrested Shiva Mistry (48), a resident of Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, and Rohit Mallik (25), a resident of Etapalli taluka in Gadchiroli district.A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Maharashtra Police Act. Cops are searching for the other accomplices.
