In a robust demonstration of support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call to prioritise national interests amid shifting geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) has announced it will relocate its 23rd annual flagship convention, NATCON 2026, from Amsterdam to a domestic venue.

The organisation’s decision aligns with the Prime Minister’s appeal for citizens and industries to conserve foreign exchange, reduce non-essential international travel, and stimulate the domestic economy. CREDAI stated that the move reflects a spirit of national solidarity and a commitment to the vision of a self-reliant India.

CREDAI expects to announce a specific Indian host city and updated program details for the event shortly. By keeping the convention within the country, the association intends to ensure that the significant economic and tourism revenue generated by the gathering benefits the domestic hospitality sector, local businesses, and related industries.

A Flagship Platform for Development

NATCON typically attracts more than 1,000 prominent developers, policymakers, investors, architects, and industry consultants from throughout the nation. While the convention is traditionally held at international locations, it serves as a critical forum for discussing urban infrastructure, construction technology, smart cities, and sustainable development.

This year’s shift is intended to bolster domestic tourism and highlight India’s growing infrastructure and urban planning achievements on a national stage.

Leadership Perspectives

Mr Shekhar Patel, President of CREDAI, emphasised that as one of India’s primary engines for employment, the real estate sector must demonstrate collective responsibility during global uncertainty.

“At a time when the Hon’ble Prime Minister has called upon citizens and industries to act responsibly and prioritise national interest amid the evolving geopolitical situation, CREDAI believes it is important for the real estate sector, as one of the country’s largest employment-generating industries, to align with this vision and demonstrate collective responsibility during this important time for the nation,” Patel said.

He noted that although preparations for the Amsterdam trip had been in progress for over six months, the association felt it was imperative to heed the Prime Minister’s request and respect the current national sentiment.

Patel further observed that the industry is currently grappling with heightened construction costs—driven by the rising price of steel, cement, and other raw materials—and a scarcity of labour. In such a climate, he argued, contributing to the domestic economy is of paramount importance.

“While preparations for NATCON had been underway for over six months and the industry was fully prepared to travel to Amsterdam this August, CREDAI felt it was important to take cognisance of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s appeal and the prevailing national sentiment,” he added.
