Congress leaders smash earthen pots at NMC headquarters over water crisis | Nagpur News
Nagpur: Dozens of Congress workers, led by leader of opposition Sanjay Mahalkalkar on Wednesday laid seige to the NMC headquarters, to protest against the city’s worsening water supply situation. The protesters accused the civic administration of failing to provide regular and adequate water to citizens across several localities.Raising slogans and demanding immediate action, Congress workers carried earthen pots symbolising the daily struggles faced by residents due to irregular water supply. In a dramatic display of anger and frustration, the protesters smashed the pots at the gates of the civic body office, condemning what they termed as the complete collapse of water management in the city.“For the last two to three months, citizens across Nagpur have been suffering due to irregular water supply. Despite repeated meetings with the Mayor, the administration has failed to resolve the issue. Areas like Sakkardara, Dighori, and Nandanvan are facing severe shortages, while limited tankers are serving multiple wards,”Mahakalkar told TOI. He added people in many areas are being forced to depend on water tankers or store water for days because of inconsistent supply and low water pressure. The demonstrators demanded a transparent water distribution system, quick repairs of leakages and pipelines, and accountability from officials responsible for the disruption in supply. The protest highlighted growing public dissatisfaction over basic civic amenities and added pressure on the municipal administration to address the ongoing water troubles urgently.
