Complete pending water conservation works before El Nino: Gadchiroli collector | Nagpur News
Nagpur: Gadchiroli district collector Avishyant Panda on Thursday directed all agencies to complete pending water conservation works on priority, citing the possibility of El Nino conditions affecting rainfall in the coming months. Panda was speaking at a review meeting of the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan 2.0, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchan Yojana (PMKSY) 2.0 and Galamukta Dharan Galyukt Shivar Abhiyan at the collectorate.Under Jalyukt Shivar 2.0, a total of 6,516 works were proposed through special funds and convergence, of which 5,134 received administrative approval. District water conservation officer Amit Raut said 4,680 works had been completed, taking the overall progress to 91%. Works under the special fund component stood at 97% completion while convergence works were at 87%. Only 30% of the completed works have been geo tagged so far. Panda directed agencies to update the geo tagging data at the earliest. Under PMKSY 2.0, 1,128 works across four projects received administrative approval, of which 1,029 have been completed, taking physical progress past 85%. The meeting also reviewed pending approval proposals and works marked for cancellation.Under the Galamukta Dharan Galyukt Shivar Abhiyan, approximately 7.54 lakh cubic metres of silt has been removed from ponds and streams in the district so far, with 29 works completed. Panda directed the agencies involved to complete the remaining works within the stipulated deadline. The collector said all agencies must work towards improving groundwater levels, water availability, soil conservation and irrigation capacity. Given the potential impact of El Nino on rainfall, conservation and efficient use of available water resources was essential, Panda added.
