Nagpur, Aug 16 (PTI) The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) said it will hold a protest in Nagpur on August 17 as part of its nationwide agitation to press the Centre to resolve long-pending problems of labourers, including demands for higher pension, increased wage ceilings and benefits for scheme-based workers.

Workers from industries, banks, Metro services, public sector undertakings, and organised and unorganised sectors are expected to participate in the protest, which will begin at 3 pm at Samvidhan Square, said Suresh Choudhary, publicity chief of the RSS-affiliated organisation on Sunday.

Choudhary said their major demands include the implementation of equal pay for equal work, a five-day work week for bank employees and increasing the maximum gratuity limit to Rs 40 lakh.

The BMS has also sought restoration of the 50 per cent railway fare concession for senior citizens, which was discontinued during the COVID-19 outbreak, said a release.

Other demands include reopening the closed Finlay Mill at Achalpur or appropriate compensation for its employees; minimum wages and eight-hour duty for rice mill workers in Bhandara-Gondia and payment of 36 months’ pending wages and retirement dues to employees of Mure Memorial Hospital, Nagpur.

The BMS has also sought resolution of pending issues concerning serving and retired employees of the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran and provision of authorised stands for autorickshaw drivers at Central Railway stations. PTI CLS NR
