BMS to hold ‘Dharna’ over pending demands today

TO DRAW the attention of the Central and State Governments towards the long-pending issues of workers employed in various industries, public sector undertakings, and the organised and unorganised sectors, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) will hold a nation-wide ‘Dharna’ on August 17. In Nagpur, the protest will be held at 3 pm at Samvidhan Chowk, near the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Thousands of workers are expected to participate in the protest.
The agitation will be held under the guidance of BMS National Vice-President Neeta Chobe, In-charge C V Rajesh, and All India Executive Member and Industry In-charge Gajanan Gatlewar, and under the leadership of Vidarbha Pradesh General Secretary Harshal Thombre. District President Shivraj Suryawanshi, Tirthraj Badwe, Nishikant Thombre, Prashant Choudhary, Ravi Pardhi and Sunita Shambharkar will also be present in the agitation.
A public meeting will be held after the protest, where various labour leaders will address the gathering. Subsequently, the workers’ representatives will proceed to the District Collector’s Office and submit a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister through the District Collector.
Among the 13 major demands of the workers includes increasing the wage ceiling for bonus eligibility to Rs 42,000, implementation of equal pay for equal work, a five-day working week for bank employees, increasing the maximum gratuity limit to Rs 40 lakh, among other demands, informs a press release issued by Suresh Choudhary, Publicity Chief of BMS.
