State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao addressing students’ protest over pending fee reimbursement dues, in Karimnagar, on Thursday.

BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday alleged that the Congress government was showing “callous apathy” towards students by delaying the release of fee reimbursement dues, which he claimed had mounted to ₹ 12,000 crore.

The BJP would stand by students in their struggle for the release of the pending fee reimbursement amount, he said while addressing a students’ protest in Karimnagar.

The protest was organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). A rally, titled ‘Students March’ was taken out in the town before the dharna.

Addressing the protesters, Mr. Rao came down heavily on the Congress government alleging that the delay in releasing fee reimbursement dues was causing severe hardship to lakhs of students and their parents and affecting the academic pursuits of students.

He alleged that the Congress government had failed to fulfil the assurances made in its “Youth Declaration”. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi owed an explanation as to why the promises made to the youth had remained unfulfilled, he said.

All sections, including students, unemployed youth, pensioners and farmers, were agitated over the “misrule” of the Congress government in the State, Mr. Rao said.

He alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, in the name of strengthening the education system, was implementing “lopsided policies” that were weakening it.

Mr. Rao further alleged that the Congress party had demonstrated a “colonial mindset” by deciding to adhere to the party’s 1937 position of singing only the first two stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ at Congress functions.
