Accused escapes police custody from hotel | Nagpur News
Nagpur: An accused wanted in a cheque bounce case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act managed to escape from police custody from a city hotel on Tuesday evening, prompting a frantic search by Gujarat Police personnel.The cops had successfully rounded up Ameet Das Bakimadas, 46, a native of Cuttack, Odisha.The incident occurred at a hotel located near Bhavsar Chowk on Central Avenue. The complainant, police sub-inspector Himmatbhai Jinjala, 57, attached to Rajkot City police, Gujarat, was escorting the accused along with two constables.According to the complaint, PSI Jinjala and his team were transporting the accused back to Gujarat in a private taxi. On July 14, they checked into the Nagpur hotel to freshen up during the journey. PSI Jinjala occupied one room while the accused was kept in another. While one constable went to freshen up and the other reportedly fell asleep, the accused seized the opportunity and fled from the premises between 4 and 7 pm.Despite searches in the vicinity, the accused could not be traced.
