Nagpur: For nearly a year, every passing day deepened uncertainty for Prashant Ingle (47), a cable technician from Akola. Diagnosed with severe liver failure, he was told that only an immediate liver transplant could save his life.But with the procedure expected to cost between ₹25 lakh and ₹30 lakh, the treatment remained well beyond the family’s financial reach.Prashant, the sole earning member of his family, supports his elderly parents, wife Varsha, a daughter pursuing college education and a son studying in Class X. His health began deteriorating after he developed persistent abdominal pain in September-October 2025. Medical investigations in Akola and Nagpur revealed extensive liver damage, prompting doctors to recommend an urgent transplant.As the family struggled to arrange funds, hope came from an unexpected combination of public assistance and personal sacrifice.Under the guidance of CM Devendra Fadnavis, CM’s Medical Assistance Fund sanctioned ₹2 lakh for the treatment. Simultaneously, sustained efforts by Charitable Hospital Assistance Cell secured an additional ₹19.6 lakh from Tata Trust, raising total financial assistance to ₹21.6 lakh and making the expensive surgery possible.Yet the financial support alone could not save Prashant. A compatible liver donor was equally essential.Without hesitation, his wife Varsha volunteered to donate a portion of her liver. Her decision became the turning point in the family’s struggle, transforming a bleak prognosis into a realistic chance of survival.The transplant was successfully performed at Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai, on June 25, 2026.
