Nagpur Duo, Officials Earn Spots in Maharashtra Squads for Basketball Nationals


Nagpur’s Anaya Prabhune of Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) and Deep Bhandarkar of Nutan Bharat Yuvak Sangh (NBYS) have earned selection in the Maharashtra teams for the 76th Junior National Basketball Championship, which began in Pondicherry on May 21. The eight-day tournament is being organised under the aegis of the Basketball Federation of India.

Ahead of the nationals, a 10-day preparatory camp for the probable girls’ team was organised at the DKM court in Shankar Nagar following the recently concluded Junior State Championship in Nashik. The camp was conducted jointly by the Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) and the Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA). Expenses related to accommodation, food, and travel for the participating players were sponsored by the Prakash Rajurkar Memorial Trust.

Apart from players Anaya and Deep, two officials from Nagpur have also been included in the 30-member Maharashtra contingent. Dhiraj Kadao has been appointed as the coach of the girls’ team, while Anshita Mohod will serve as manager-cum-physiotherapist. Meanwhile, the preparatory camp for the boys’ probable squad was held in Vashi, Navi Mumbai.

MSBA president and NDBA chief Sandip Joshi, vice-president Bhavesh Kuchanwar, former MSBA treasurer Anup Rajurkar, and several other officials extended their best wishes to the selected players and officials for the national championship. Players from Pune, Nagpur, Mumbai, Nashik, Kolhapur, and Satara attended the girls’ camp held at DKM between May 9 and May 19. The 12-member Maharashtra girls’ team departed for Pondicherry from Nagpur.

Girls: Aarya Phatangare, Siya Bhosale, Anvi Kulkarni, Shraddha Charak, Aarya Bhalekar, Tanvi Jadhav, Vedika Singh, Ruchi Sawant, Anaya Prabhune, Soha Shinde, Harshala Patil, Anushka Jamdale.
Coaches: Dhiraj Kadao, Ramesh Dhotre, Anshita Mohod.

Boys: Parth Durgude, Sahil Bhati, Arjun, Devesh Patil, Deep Bhandarkar, Vidit Damani, Amrit Mukherjee, Aymen Shaikh, Vignesh Nadar, Zakki Qureshi, Ayan Sorathiya, Aditya Keshwani.
Coaches: Swaminathan R, Sujit More, Akash Kale.
