A major fire broke out at Younus Hosiery Shop in SYJ Complex at Pathergatti, Hyderabad, triggering an extensive emergency response from the Telangana Fire Services Department on Thursday (May 21, 2026). No casualties have been reported so far. The site of the fire is metres away from Gulzar Houz where a fire on May 18, 2025 killed over a dozen people.

Following a distress call, 10 fire engines and nearly 70 personnel were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. The fire, which originated in the hosiery shop, spread rapidly within the commercial complex, causing panic among shop owners and nearby establishments.

Firefighting operations lasted several hours before the blaze was brought under control. Officials said the fire has now been almost completely extinguished, with damping down operations underway to prevent any possibility of re-ignition.

The authorities said that prompt and coordinated action by fire personnel helped prevent the fire from spreading further and damaging adjoining establishments, including a bank branch, a diagnostic centre, and several textile shops within the complex. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and further details are awaited.
