No Public Events Between 11 am and 4:30 pm Amid Heatwave Alert
Following a ‘Yellow Alert’ issued by the Meteorological Department for Nagpur and Wardha districts due to a possible heatwave, Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari has appealed to citizens, students, and workers to remain cautious.
As temperatures continue to rise sharply and the heatwave is expected to intensify in Nagpur and Wardha, a special review meeting was held under Bidari’s chairmanship at the Divisional Commissioner’s office auditorium to discuss precautionary measures across the division.During the meeting, strict directives were issued in line with the Meteorological Department’s advisory.
Authorities instructed that no public events should be organised between 11 am and 4:30 pm to protect citizens from extreme heat exposure. Schools, colleges, offices, and other institutions were also directed to implement necessary safety measures for students, employees, and the public.Under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, all District Collectors were instructed to establish ‘Cold Wards’ in every Primary Health Centre and ensure adequate arrangements to tackle heat-related illnesses.
Officials were also asked to maintain sufficient stocks of essential medicines required for treating heatstroke and dehydration cases.
Heatwave alerts will remain in force across the division throughout May and June. Authorities stressed the importance of immediate medical attention for patients showing symptoms of heatstroke.
The meeting also highlighted the need for awareness campaigns to educate people about heatwave safety measures and the establishment of Cooling Centres within municipal corporation areas.Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Vipin Itankar informed that precautionary steps have already been implemented in Nagpur and Chandrapur municipal limits.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has directed officials to install green nets at major intersections, strengthen healthcare facilities, and issue safety instructions to schools, colleges, and coaching institutes.Nagpur District Collector Kumar Ashirwad said heatwave mitigation measures have been enforced across the district and will continue till June 16.
District Collectors, Chief Executive Officers, and District Health Officers from Wardha, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Gondia also participated in the meeting through video conferencing and shared updates on steps being taken in their respective districts.
