Hitec City footpath in state of disrepair for months, forces pedestrians on to busy roads

Hyderabad: A damaged section of footpath near the ITC Kohenur in Hitec City, close to the footbridge, has been broken for three to four months.Posing safety risks and causes inconvenience to pedestrians and office workers in this busy tech area, the 100-metre stretch of footpath has several uneven and missing slabs along the row of IT offices. As a result, many pedestrians are forced to walk on the road amid heavy traffic, especially during peak hours.People using the stretch said that the situation becomes even more dangerous at night and during rain. Open gaps between slabs, debris accumulation and stagnant water make it difficult for pedestrians to walk safely. An IT employee working in a nearby office said that the damaged footpath makes daily commuting risky. “Many of us walk from the foot overbridge bus stop to our offices. Since the slabs are broken, we have to step onto the road where vehicles pass at high speed. It gets unsafe, especially during rush hours,” said Sai Teja, a software engineer. Another IT professional said that the issue had remained unattended for months. “This is a busy tech hub with thousands of employees using this stretch every day. The authorities should repair the footpath soon so that pedestrians can walk safely. I noticed GHMC workers here sometimes putting soil over it, but the stretch remains far from complete,” said Swati Vasireddy.A pedestrian who frequently uses the road said that people are forced to adapt despite the risks. “When it rains, water fills the gaps and you cannot see where the broken slabs are. Anyone can easily trip and fall,” he added.Residents and office-goers have urged the civic authorities to repair the damaged footpath as soon as possible to ensure safe movement for pedestrians.
