NMRDA Clears Outer Ring Road, Transport Hubs and Trade Centre Projects
In a major push to strengthen Nagpur’s infrastructure and economic growth, the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has approved several large-scale projects, including an outer ring road, four transport hubs and an International Business and Financial Centre (IBFC).
The approvals were granted during the authority’s 11th meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The projects aim to transform Nagpur into a key logistics and commercial hub.
As part of the plan, NMRDA will develop an outer ring road around the city along with four truck and bus terminals to improve freight transport and passenger movement. The meeting also approved the proposed IBFC in New Nagpur to attract global trade and investment.
Officials said the metropolitan commissioner has been authorised to enter into agreements with Housing and Urban Development Corporation (Hudco) and raise loans for project funding, allowing faster implementation of the infrastructure works.
The meeting held in Mumbai was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Minister of State Madhuri Misal, senior officials and Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule through video conferencing.
NMRDA also approved its revised budget for 2025-26 and proposed budget for 2026-27. In addition, the authority cleared funding support under the Maharashtra Urban Infrastructure Fund for various central and state-backed schemes.
To address future water needs, approval was given for acquiring additional land for a 50-km-long pipeline corridor from the Gosikhurd Dam project to the Nagpur metropolitan region. The pipeline is part of the proposed Wainganga-Nalganga river-linking initiative.
Officials said the projects are expected to improve logistics, ease traffic flow, strengthen water security and boost Nagpur’s long-term urban and economic development.
