Nagpur’s Abhin Modak appointed Chennai Police Commissioner

Nagpur: Abhin Dinesh Modak of Nagpur has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police of Chennai by the Election Commission of India (ECI). He replaces A Arun. The directive was issued by ECI Secretary Lata Tripathi to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary.
Abhin Modak, a 1994-batch IPS officer, has a strong connection with Nagpur. He completed his schooling at Mount Carmel School and Somalwar High School. He later graduated in Mechanical Engineering with top honours from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), one of the city’s premier institutes.
Modak joined the IPS in 1997 and has served in key positions, including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He has handled several high-profile cases such as the ISIS Mumbai case and the Church Street blast in Bengaluru. He was also involved in implementing the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) in Tamil Nadu. Modak was, recently, honoured with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. He will now oversee law and order in Chennai during the crucial election period.
