Constable arrested for double murder in Suryapet

A 2024-batch police constable from Suryapet allegedly beat a couple to death with a stick over a ₹3 lakh debt.

The CCTV footage and the confession of another suspect helped police crack the double murder case.

He suspect was arrested on Friday.

The bodies of the couple, identified as Buba, 40, and her husband Nagulu, 48, were found in a decomposed state by villagers on August 12. “Around 1 p.m., villagers noticed a woman’s body and alerted us. We registered a case and started a probe,” said an officer from the Mothey police of Suryapet.

During the investigation, police found another body about 10 metres away. The victims were identified as couple.

Police examined CCTV footage from the area and found that a man identified as Sundar was the last person seen with the couple. During questioning, Sundar allegedly confessed that the couple were murdered by police constable Mohd Shareef.

Shareef, attached to Mothey police station, had allegedly lent the couple ₹3 lakh on interest. According to police, the couple repeatedly delayed repayment, angering the constable. He then hatched a plan to kill them.

Police found out that Shareef attacked the couple with a stick, causing fatal head injuries, and left their bodies at the spot.

Shareef, who was recently engaged, was arrested on Friday and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Police are continuing their investigation into the double murder.
