Crime Branch nets three in twin MD drug busts, seizes contraband worth Rs 30.6 lakh

Nagpur: Continuing its crackdown on narcotics, the Nagpur Crime Branch carried out two separate raids on Friday, arresting three alleged drug peddlers and seizing mephedrone (MD) along with vehicles, mobile phones, cash and other valuables collectively worth Rs 30.60 lakh. One more suspect is on the run, police said.

The first operation was conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Squad near Star Motors Multi Car Workshop on Gorewada Ring Road under the Gittikhadan police station limits. Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended Danish Khan Abrar Khan and Mukarram Munawar Ali Kazi.

During the search, officers recovered MD powder, two mobile phones and a Scorpio SUV. The total value of the seized contraband and other articles is estimated at Rs 17.30 lakh.

During interrogation, investigators identified Syed Irfan Ali as another key member of the alleged drug racket. He remains absconding and is being hunted by multiple police teams. Police said he has previously been booked under the NDPS Act.

In a separate operation, the Crime Branch’s Social Security Department arrested Salim Sajid Khan near a government ration shop on New Narsala Road under the Hudkeshwar police station limits.

Police seized MD powder, two mobile phones, a motorcycle, a gold ring and cash collectively valued at Rs 13.30 lakh from his possession.

Separate offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered at the respective police stations.

Investigators are now probing the source of the seized narcotics, the interstate links of the network and the possible involvement of other members. Police said sustained operations against drug traffickers will continue across the city.
