Woman Killed, Couple Injured in Nagpur Over Old Rental Dispute

Nagpur: A shocking incident of violence rocked Nagpur on Tuesday morning when a former tenant allegedly stormed into his ex-landlord’s house and attacked the family with a sword and knife, leaving one woman dead and a couple seriously injured. The incident took place in Amar Nagar under the jurisdiction of the MIDC Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Sangeeta Raju Chaudhary (40). The injured, Dharmapal Sudam Dahat and his wife Vanita Dahat, are undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police have arrested the accused, Roshan Nilkanth Taral.
Old Dispute Turns Deadly
According to police, the accused had lived as a tenant in the Dahat family’s house for a few months about a year ago. During his stay, the landlords had allegedly objected to him playing loud music and other issues, leading to frequent arguments. Police suspect the accused was nursing a grudge over the dispute.
On Tuesday at around 9 a.m., the accused allegedly arrived at the house armed with a sword and a knife and launched a sudden attack. He first assaulted Dharmapal Dahat with the sword, causing severe injuries to his fingers as he tried to defend himself. He then attacked Vanita Dahat with a knife, seriously injuring her.
Visiting Woman Killed
At the time of the attack, Sangeeta Chaudhary, who had come to the house as a guest, stepped out of the kitchen. The accused allegedly attacked her with the sword, inflicting a fatal neck injury. Police said she had no connection with the dispute and appeared to be an innocent victim.
Accused Arrested
After the attack, the accused reportedly remained inside the house and sat on a sofa. Local residents locked him inside until MIDC Police arrived. Officers broke open the door, took him into custody, and later arrested him.
A case of murder and attempt to murder has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway.
