Nagpur woman hires contract killers to murder husband amid disputes
Police in Nagpur have arrested a woman on suspicion of hiring contract killers to murder her husband following domestic disputes. One other accused has also been detained, while two suspects remain at large.
The victim, 45-year-old Ganesh Borkar, was fatally attacked with sharp weapons near Bhandewadi on the night of July 2 as he returned home from a tea stall. He died at the scene. Authorities registered a murder case at Bhandewadi Police Station after a complaint was filed by the victim’s mother.
Investigators from the Crime Branch and Bhandewadi Police collaborated to analyse technical evidence, local intelligence, and statements from family members. The victim’s wife became a suspect due to reports of frequent marital disputes and past threats.
Manisha Borkar, 37, was identified and arrested. Police report that she confessed to planning the murder during questioning. She had reportedly been living separately with her children following domestic issues and allegedly paid Rs 1 lakh to contract killers, with Rs 50,000 paid upfront and the balance promised after the murder.
Alongside Manisha Borkar, 29-year-old Abhijit Sakhare has been arrested. Two other suspects, Rohit Borkar and a juvenile, are currently absconding, and efforts to locate them are ongoing.
Police said the deceased had a criminal record with 18 cases registered against him, including charges related to attempted murder, illegal liquor activities, and other offences.
Investigations continue to determine the role of all involved and to apprehend the remaining accused. Legal proceedings are ongoing.
