Dhurandhar 2 has kickstarted its journey to become an all-time blockbuster. On the paid preview day (March 18), the Ranveer Singh spy thriller minted Rs 43 crore in India despite facing technical delays in the initial hours of the screenings.

Mumbai’s famous Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir theatre owner, Manoj Desai, has lashed out at the makers of the film for not giving the KDM (Key Delivery Message) on time. He further revealed that shows got cancelled in around 500 theatres across the country on March 18. Despite this, it has to be noted that Dhurandhar 2 is getting a solid response at the box office.

Theatre Owner Slams Dhurandhar 2 Makers

For the unversed, KDM is a small encrypted XML file containing the security key needed to unlock and play an encrypted digital cinema package (DCP). KDMs restrict movies to specific and authorised theatre servers to a specific time window, acting as a digital rights management (DRM) tool against piracy. It has to be noted that the theatre owners are not allowed to play any film until they get the KDM from the makers.

In an interview with Etimes, Manoj Desai revealed that they (makers) didn’t answer anyone when they were running the date. He stated that they didn’t care about shows getting cancelled as 2 shows were cancelled at Gaiety, Galaxy and Maratha Mandir each on March 18.

“Mere akele theatre mein nahi. Pure India mein 500 theatres mein KDM nahi gaya aur show cancel hua,” Manoj Desai added. He further mentioned that the makers sent the KDM two hours after the scheduled show time.

For the unversed, many shows of Dhurandhar 2 were cancelled in several theatres. According to Box Office Worldwide, more than 20,000 cancellations happened in the top multiplex chains due to delay and cancellation of the shows. Despite such issues, Dhurandhar 2 turned out to be a big money-maker on paid preview day. As per trade experts, the film is going to create history on March 19 as several shows are running housefull on the occasion of Gudi Padwa.
