Government doctors protest across Telangana over transfer process, allege violations of GO 38

Government doctors across Telangana staged protests on Friday (June 5, 2026) against the ongoing transfer process, alleging that the provisions of Government Order (G.O.) No. 38 was not being implemented in letter and spirit.

The agitation was organised by the Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA), with demonstrations held at major government hospitals, including Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital as well as district hospitals across the State.

Addressing the gathering at Osmania General Hospital on Friday (June 5, 2026) morning, TGGDA member Dr. Bongu Ramesh alleged that several categories of doctors eligible for priority consideration were unable to exercise their transfer options properly. He particularly raised concerns regarding the implementation of the spouse criterion, under which husbands and wives are to be posted in the same or nearby locations.

“Despite repeated representations to senior officials and the Health Department over the past month, several concerns remain unresolved. Individuals eligible under spouse and request transfer categories were facing difficulties in submitting or exercising their options through the online system,” he added.

Association representatives also questioned the transparency of the vacancy list displayed during the transfer exercise. They alleged that vacancies arising from the retention of certain office bearers and other categories were not being reflected adequately, thereby limiting the options available to transfer seekers.

Meanwhile, the Department of Medical Education (DME) denied reports of any disruption to healthcare services due to the protests.

In a statement, Director of Medical Education Dr. Narendra Kumar said outpatient (OP), inpatient (IP) and surgical services were continuing normally in all government hospitals. He maintained that patients were not facing any inconvenience and asserted that the transfer process was being conducted in a completely transparent manner through an online system.
