AIIMS Nagpur Signs MoU with MAHAPREIT for 4 MW Solar Power Project

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT) for the development of a 4 MW solar power project on its campus, further strengthening its commitment to renewable energy adoption and sustainable development.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Prashant P. Joshi, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of AIIMS Nagpur, and Santosh Wahane, Chief General Manager of MAHAPREIT, in the presence of officials from both organizations.
MAHAPREIT, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mahatma Phule Backward Class Development Corporation (MPBCDC), is a Government of Maharashtra public sector undertaking focused on promoting renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure projects across the state.
The proposed solar power project is expected to enhance AIIMS Nagpur’s energy sustainability efforts by increasing the share of clean energy in its operations while reducing dependence on conventional power sources and lowering carbon emissions.
AIIMS Nagpur has been actively pursuing renewable energy initiatives in recent years. The institute has operated a 500 kW solar power plant since 2019 through the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). In addition, a 200 kW rooftop solar power system is currently being installed through NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN), further expanding the institute’s renewable energy infrastructure.
The new 4 MW solar project represents a significant step in AIIMS Nagpur’s sustainability roadmap and is expected to contribute to improved energy efficiency, reduced operational carbon footprint, and environmentally responsible institutional practices.
The initiative aligns with broader national objectives to promote renewable energy adoption across public institutions while supporting India’s clean energy transition and long-term sustainability goals.
