'If Modi is bringing development, why live abroad?' Raj questions Vivek Oberoi
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray has questioned actors Vivek Oberoi and R Madhavan over their decision to live abroad while praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development initiatives in India, reported the PTI.
Speaking at an event on Saturday, Raj Thackeray said several business leaders and professionals had moved to foreign countries and questioned why those who believe India is progressing under the current government choose to settle overseas.
Thackeray referred to actor Vivek Oberoi, who portrayed PM Modi in a biographical film, and claimed that Oberoi currently lives in Dubai, according to the PTI.
He also mentioned actor R Madhavan, who has praised the government’s efforts to promote industries and development, and questioned his decision to reside abroad.
“If they believe the Prime Minister is bringing development and supporting India’s growth, why do they live in Dubai with their families?” Thackeray asked.
Question over migration of business leaders
The MNS chief also highlighted the migration of thousands of business people to foreign countries and raised concerns about the trend, as per the PTI.
He questioned whether those supporting India’s economic progress should contribute by remaining in the country.
Thackeray’s comments have sparked a debate over the relationship between public figures, their views on India’s development and their personal choices regarding residence abroad.
He also alleged that some actors participate in government-backed films before moving overseas.
Raj Thackeray alleges Rs 18 cr Siddhivinayak Temple donation
Meanwhile, Raj Thackeray has claimed that donations of Rs 18 crore were being siphoned off every year at the famous Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai, reported the PTI.
He also alleged that Rs 1,400 crore had been stolen at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Even temples are not safe these days, Thackeray said and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak on this issue.
The MNS chief was speaking at a programme organised by his party”s student wing on Saturday.
Frustrated youths visit temples, but even temples are not safe from corruption, he said.
Some employees who stole money from the donation box at the Siddhivinayak Temple were caught due to the alertness of the trustees, Thackeray said, reading out a letter written by eight trustees to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, as per the PTI.
The temple”s weekly earnings from donations were less than Rs 50 lakh before this theft was caught, and afterwards the collection rose to Rs 1.5 crore, he said.
