Nagpur’s Ishwari Pande creates history

Nagpur: In a moment that will forever be etched in the annals of sporting history, 17-year-old visually impaired swimmer Ishwari Pande from Nagpur has achieved the unthinkable by conquering the treacherous waters of the Palk Strait from Sri Lanka to India, showcasing extraordinary courage, endurance and an indomitable spirit. With this monumental feat accomplished on Monday, Ishwari is poised to become the first completely blind swimmer in the world to successfully complete the historic crossing.

Every stroke in the vast ocean symbolised her fearless determination and refusal to accept limitations.
Born completely blind, Ishwari has transformed adversity into inspiration. Her journey from darkness to global sporting glory stands as a shining example of resilience, proving that determination can illuminate even the most difficult paths.
The historic swim was officially observed by Para Swimming Federation of India representative M Vijayakumar, Jayakumar from the Tamil Nadu Open Water Swimming Association, and Sukhdev Dhurve, recipient of the International Excellence Award.
The extraordinary expedition was organised by the Shark Aquatic Sporting Association Nagpur, with Ishwari guided by her international coach Sanjay Batwe. She was supported in the waters by expert pace swimmers Bhavi Rajgire, Ishant Pande, Sandeep Vaidya, and Nirav Pandya, while Dr Abhay Rajgire accompanied the team as the physician.
Behind this incredible achievement stands the unwavering support of her parents Kamlesh Pande and Aruna Pande, whose encouragement and belief in their daughter’s potential played a vital role in shaping her journey.
