Nagpur: Maharashtra’s young pugilists Ishika (46 kg), Samruddhi (60 kg), and Shanaya (63 kg) delivered stellar performances to advance to the next round of the Seventh Junior National Boxing Championship, underway at the MLA Hostel premises in Nagpur under the aegis of the Maharashtra Boxing Association.
Tuesday’s session featured only the girls’ bouts, turning the ring into a stage of high-voltage action with aggressive strategies, fast footwork, and precise counter-attacks that thrilled the audience.
Ishika opened Maharashtra’s winning account by defeating Goa’s Lavanya convincingly with a 5-0 verdict. Samruddhi showcased her strength and skill to outclass Uttarakhand’s Harshita, while Shanaya maintained the state’s momentum by beating Manipur’s Preeti Devi. These wins have set the stage for the boxers to make their mark as the championship progresses toward its decisive rounds.
According to Naeem Quraishi, Chairman of the PR Commission of the Maharashtra Boxing Association, each athlete’s performance is being closely monitored by Vinod Kumar, head coach for junior boys (BFI), and Lt Col.
