Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy has said the scenic hill region of Karreguttalu in the nature’s lap in Mulugu district emerged as Maoist-free region.

The police department will assist the inter-agency coordinated efforts to ensure socio-economic development of Adivasis inhabiting Pamunuru and other tribal habitations in Mulugu district, he said.

Plans are afoot to develop the Karregutta hills into a tourism hub and a police outpost will be constructed here to provide full security to the tourists visiting this picturesque spot, he added.

The DGP was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the police outpost and inter-agency coordination centre in Pamunuru on Tuesday.

The DGP along with a host of senior officials of the Forest, Revenue and other government departments and agencies visited the interior village, hitherto considered the bastion of the outlawed CPI (Maoist).

The Karregutta hills, straddles the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, spanning 60 km in the forest region of the neighbouring State.

The Telangana DGP handed over an autorickshaw, a motorbike and groceries to the Adivasis of Pamunuru. Speaking on the media, the DGP said 13-km stretch of the roadwork between Murmuru and Tadpala has been completed in Mulugu district. The remaining work of the inter-State road on the Telangana side will be completed within two months, he said, adding that enhanced road connectivity will open up new avenues of development in the forested border region.

Landmines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) earlier planted by the Maoists in the remote areas along the inter-State border with Chhattisgarh had been recovered and neutralised, he said in reply to a specific query.
